Recipe Memo 20 (Earth Armlet): obtained early in the game, on Aeos. After few story events it will become unavailable Right after landing on the planet you can obtain it by speaking with one of the members of the crew on the Calnus. Recipe Memo 05 (Storm Blade): obtained very early in the game, on Aeos. This is valid for both the Recipe Memos (two missable) and for the recipes invented via Invention Groups (four missable). The level of the Item Creation Field Skill is also taken into account for the 30 items obtained via Recipe Memos: if you have the ingredients to create an item and you have its Recipe Memo, but you don't have the corresponding Item Creation Field Skill high enough, you won't be able to create the item. If that's not the case, even if you put Edge in an Invention Group with the correct partners you will not be able to invent the Venom Sword recipe. For example, the Venom Sword is an item of the "Smithery" group, and requires Edge's Smithery Field Skill to be at level 3 or higher.
Every item requires a minimum level of the Field Skill to be available for discovery. The higher the level of your Field Skills, the more recipes become available by putting the characters in the Invention Groups. With the exception of Synthesis, which only reaches level 1, all the other skills (Smithery, Cooking, etc.) can be upgraded to level 10. The "Item Creation" Field Skills can be upgraded like any other skill in the game.
For example, in order to discover any of the Smithery recipes you will need to put Edge in the Invention Group in order to discover any of the Engineering recipes you will need to put Bacchus in the Invention Group and so on with the other categories. In order to invent the items/recipes of a certain category (Smithery, Cooking, etc.) you will always need to put the corresponding character in the Invention Group. The other characters, as you can see, all have one specific "Item Creation" Field Skill, which belongs to them and only to them the only exception is Alchemy, since Faize and Arumat both have this Field Skill.
Sarah's "Synthesis" Field Skill is related to a special kind of Item Creation, called Synthesis, and will be discussed on another page since it's a different type of operation with your equipment and materials. Each of your main characters has a "Field Skill" (which you can check in-game too: open the main menu with Y, then select "Skills" to view them) related to Item Creation, and each of them focuses on a certain category of items/recipes. The items/recipes are divided into various categories, as we are going to see soon. Your goal to earn some achievements is to create each of the 321 possible items at least once. Many of the recipes can be unlocked with different combinations of characters (for example the Pickled Plum Rice can be unlocked by putting Edge & Reimi in an Invention Group, but also Reimi & Faize and many other combinations with other characters) these combinations have been listed in the lower "half" of this page. There are many possible combinations you can make (121) with the various characters available in the game, and each combination of characters will unlock a certain amount of recipes. In each "Invention Group" you can put up to 3 characters. In order to discover new recipes with your characters you need to put them together in "Invention Groups".
This expression corresponds, in-game, to the "Invent New Recipes" menu/feature of the Item Creation terminal (in the Calnus, again) Most of the recipes (almost 300x in total!) must be discovered by "asking your characters to think of something to create". Each Recipe Memo corresponds to a certain item, and we can say that finding a certain Recipe Memo basically "teaches" you a Recipe Some recipes (30x in total listed below) are found in the world of Star Ocean in the form of "Recipe Memos" (Recipe Memo 01, Recipe Memo 02, etc.). You get the Ingredients for that Recipe You find a Recipe, which basically "unlocks" an item in the Item Creation terminal Item Creation is available in the Meeting Room of the Calnus from the earlier phases of the game, and will never cease to be available for use. Item Creation is a very interesting feature that allows you to combine various items, called "Ingredients", to obtain new and more powerful items.
